Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

Build your M2C2 with our pre-tested kits or source your own components.

Raspberry Pi 4

What: The brain of M2C2 — runs the OS, UI, Piper, and smart home bridges.

Why: Needs enough RAM for smooth widgets and optional camera / face models.

Recommended: Pi 4 with 4GB (Starter) or 8GB (Pro / Family / Touch)

DIY buy: Core Electronics · PiAustralia · Jaycar

Included in: All Anakatech kits

microSD card

What: Boot storage with the M2C2 image pre-flashed.

Why: Mirror UIs write often — endurance-rated cards last years, not weeks.

Recommended: 32GB (Starter) or 128GB endurance (Pro+)

DIY buy: Amazon AU · local Pi retailers

Included in: All kits include flashed SD

Official USB-C power supply

What: Stable 5.1V / 3A power for Pi + peripherals.

Why: Under-voltage causes random reboots that look like “software bugs”.

Recommended: Official Raspberry Pi 15W supply (AU plug)

DIY buy: PiAustralia · Core Electronics

Included in: All kits

HDMI cable

What: Connects Pi to your TV or monitor.

Why: Cheap cables can drop signal behind glass or long cable runs.

Recommended: High-speed HDMI 2.0, 1–2m typical

DIY buy: Jaycar · Amazon AU

Included in: Starter and above

USB microphone

What: Captures wake word and voice commands for Hey Piper.

Why: Consistent sensitivity across rooms; we test models that reject fan noise.

Recommended: Compact USB mic (included SKU)

DIY buy: Electronics retailers

Included in: Starter and above

Pi Camera Module

What: Optional vision for face recognition and presence.

Why: Lets M2C2 switch profiles before anyone speaks.

Recommended: Camera Module 3

DIY buy: Core Electronics · PiAustralia

Included in: Pro, Family, Touch (+ add-on)

PIR sensor

What: Detects motion for sleep/wake scenes and hallway automations.

Why: Reduces false triggers vs camera-only heuristics in low light.

Recommended: Pre-wired PIR with GPIO harness

DIY buy: DIY: generic PIR + resistor kit

Included in: Pro, Family, Touch

Display / touch frame

What: Any HDMI panel; touch frame adds fingertip control on glass installs.

Why: Not bundled — everyone’s wall and bezel depth differs.

Recommended: 24–32" HDMI panel + optional 32" USB touch overlay

DIY buy: TV retailers · specialist touch vendors

Included in: Touch Kit includes 32" frame; display still BYO
